  • 1819 में सिलाई मशीन के आविष्कारक एलायस हाउ का जन्म हुआ था। 
  • 1973 ब्रितानी महारानी के प्रतिनिधि के रूप में राजकुमार चार्ल्स ने 300 साल पुराने उपनिवेश बहामास में आख़िरी रात बिताई। 
  • 1982 में ब्रिटेन की महारानी एलिजाबेथ द्वितीय के बकिंघम पैलेस के उनके निजी शयनकक्ष में एक आदमी तमाम बाधाओं और सुरक्षा चक्रों को पार करते हुए घुस आया था।  महारानी को उसकी उपस्थिति का पता तब लगा जब उसने कमरे का पर्दा हटाया।  महारानी तभी अपने अंगरक्षकों को बुला सकीं जब उसने महारनी से एक सिगरेट की मांग की। 
  • 1925 में वसंतकुमार शिवशंकर पादुकोण का जन्म हुआ था, जो आगे चल कर हिंदी फ़िल्मों में गुरु दत्त के नाम से जाने गए उन्हें हिंदी फिल्म जगत के सबसे कमाल के कलाकारों में से एक माना जाता है। 
  • 1938 में अभिनेता संजीव कुमार का जन्म हुआ था। 
  • 2011 आज का दिन दुनिया के सबसे युवा राष्ट्र के नाम है।  नौ जुलाई को अफ्रीका का सूडान दो हिस्सों में बंट गया।  दक्षिणी हिस्सा रिपब्लिक ऑफ साउथ सूडान बना।
