  • सन 1874 में आज ही के दिन सभी देशों के बीच पत्रों का आवागमन सहज रूप से हो सके, इसे ध्यान में रखते हुए जनरल पोस्टल यूनियन के गठन हेतु बर्न, स्विटजरलैंड में 22 देशों ने एक संधि पर हस्ताक्षर किया था। इसी वजह से बाद में 9 अक्टूबर को विश्व डाक दिवस के रूप में मनाना शुरू किया गया।
  • सन 1876 में आज ही के दिन पहली बार टेलिफोन पर आउट वायर के जरिए दो तरफा बातचीत हुई थी। इसके बाद 1947 में चलती हुई कार और प्लेन में बैठे दो लोगों ने बातचीत की थी।
  • सन 1945 में आज ही के दिन प्रसिद्ध भारतीय सरोद वादक उस्ताद अमजद अली खान का जन्म हुआ।
  • सन 1967 में आज ही के दिन अर्जेन्टीना के मार्क्सवादी क्रांतिकारी अर्नेस्तो "चे" गेवारा का निधन हो गया ।
