देश और दुनिया के इतिहास के पन्नों में 23 जुलाई कई कारणों से महत्वपूर्ण है, उनमें से ये सभी प्रमुख हैं:-
- 1829 में अमेरिका के विलियम ऑस्टिन बर्ट ने टाइपोग्राफ का पेटेंट कराया था, जिसने टाइपराइटर की नींव रखी।
- 1856 में आज ही के दिन बाल गंगाधर तिलक का जन्म हुआ था।
- 1906 में क्रांतिकारी चंद्रशेखर आजाद का जन्म आज ही के दिन हुआ था।
- 1974 में ग्रीस का सैन्य शासन ख़त्म हो गया और पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री कौन्सटैनटिन कारमनालिस को दोबारा सत्ता संभालने का न्यौता दिया गया।
- 1983 में आज ही के दिन शुरू हुए तमिल टाइगर्स के नाम से विख्यात एलटीटीई विद्रोहियों और श्रीलंका सरकार के बीच 26 सालों तक चले गृह युद्ध में हजारों जानें गईं।
- 2004 में कॉमेडी के बादशाह महमूद अली का निधन हुआ था।
- 2005 में मिस्र के शर्म-अल-शेख के रिजाॅर्ट में हुए बम धमाकों में 88 लोग मारे गए थे। रात में हुए इन धमाकों में क़रीब 200 लोग घायल भी हुए थे। कुल तीन धमाके हुए थे, इनमें पहला पुराने बाज़ार में हुआ और बाक़ि दो एक रिजाॅर्ट में हुए थे।
